Starting school – things you need to know

Start of school year in 2024

  • Best start interviews will be held at the beginning of the year (dates to be confirmed). These are short interviews with each child and more information will be provided to parents closer to the time.

Uniforms and what to wear

  • School uniforms can be purchased online from PSW.
  • The school P&C also run a second-hand uniform shop where uniforms can be purchased. Opening dates/times are publicised in advance.
  • Shoes need to be enclosed and black is the preferred colour. Joggers and more formal shoes are fine.

Student travel

To check if your child is eligible for a school travel pass or School Opal card and to apply for one please refer to Transport NSW.

When does school start and finish? Lunch breaks

  • The school playground is supervised from 8.30am.
  • Classes commence at 8.55am and finish at 3.00pm.
  • At the start of the day in class students have what we call “crunch and sip”. This consists of a piece or fruit and a drink of water or fruit juice.
  • There are two lunch breaks during the day: one from 10.50am – 11.30am and the other from 1.20pm – 2.00pm. During the first 10 minutes of each break students eat their lunch in class.

  • Lunch orders can be placed with a school canteen service which delivers food to the school.
  • The canteen service runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • You will need to download the Spriggy Schools app and create a profile for your child

Communicating with the school

  • ClassDojo: teachers communicate with parents via an app called ClassDojo. Teachers will set this up with parents at the beginning of the school year
  • Gmail: the school also uses a Gmail address for email.
